I dedicate this workshop to the
memory of Kevin Killian (1952--2019)

This workshop will focus on turning our homes into a workshop space with the ancient technologies of poetry and ritual. We will also discuss a nationwide collaborative project called The Poetry Commons as an extension of both poetry and ritual.

Please read THIS LINK ahead of our August 9th meeting.

---------
While this workshop is FREE, it is also a fundraiser for the Kevin Killian Memorial Scholarship Fund at Naropa's Summer Writing Program. He was an extraordinary poet, novelist, and playwright, and a kind, beautiful soul who is missed by many of us around the world. Kevin invited me to build (Soma)tic poetry rituals with his students several times over the years at CCA. Each time it was exciting to witness his enthusiastic, generous encouragement for his students to push open the possibilities of what it means to be a writer. His work as a writer and teacher is only part of the magical presence that remains of his time with us.

To DONATE please follow these steps:

First, please go to THIS LINK
Then select the Naropa Scholarship Fund in the dropdown menu
Then in the notes section write: "Kevin Killian Summer Writing Program Scholarship"

GELATINA 2020, MADRID (online)

It is an honor to be part of this year's festival!

I remember reading Lorca the first time as a teenager! "But like love / the archers / are blind" I was HOOKED! There was a photo of him and another of a street in Madrid-- a place and a person that gave us such rich celebrations of the imagination!

Although I was excited to visit Madrid in person, I will be conducting the workshop online.

Please click THIS LINK for the 2-day workshop registration.

Ritual for the new year!

I am spending time with friends in New York the weekend before New Years Day 2020. There is going to be a heavy rainstorm, as much as an inch and a half of water. This approaching storm is PERFECT for a ritual cleanse to prepare for the new calendar.

There is a secluded section of the yard where we can each spend time privately standing naked with head back, facing the oncoming water, arms stretched as high as we can reach. We are going to build the ritual ingredients, but the focus is around each of us getting time in the storm. We will be writing notes for the poem before and after the rain, but also explaining what we want for the coming year without words. It could be drawing, dancing, whatever we want to communicate without words. We plan on having 9 ingredients, and these are just two so far. HAPPY NEW YEAR! MORE POETRY! MORE CREATIVITY! THEREFORE MORE SOLUTIONS FOR THE WORLD!

NEW YEARS DAY in NYC 2020

I LOVE to celebrate my birthday (I will be 54) at The Poetry Project in NYC for their annual fundraiser. Please join us, they have an enormous amount of poetry books for sale in the back room, as well as delicious food, AND OF COURSE the most amazing TALENT all day long out on the big stage! SEE YOU SOON! FULL SCHEDULE AT THIS LINK!
